Get together

for a tour of Auckland’s backyard

Pā Rongorongo - Open the gate to Emerging Auckland

Set in the heart of Auckland’s bustling CBD (on the corner of Wellesley and Albert Streets), discover the serene Griffiths Gardens. A relaxing, public space for city dwellers and visitors. Crafted around your atypical Kiwi backyard, it was created as a focal point and information centre to celebrate Auckland’s Māori identity through design. This interactive citizen’s hub - Pā Rongorongo, features wooden benches, a shed with a digital wall and a place to gather and immerse yourself in the experience of Emerging Auckland.

Satellite was privileged to work with the Auckland City Council and award-winning designer Angus Muir and be part of this past, present and future look at Auckland.

Map the journey you want

We were asked to create an app and provide the hardware that would allow tourists, residents and workers alike to take an all-encompassing digital view of the city. From arts, culture and heritage spaces to urban forests and Māori sites of significance. Using Microsoft Surface tablets and a large interactive touch screen, users scroll through categories focusing on points of interest. They can also reference cycle ways, walking routes, bus routes and current and proposed rail links plus residential and commercial development projects that pique their interest.

“I’m interested in that…”

With focus on their preferred POI’s, users customise their own mapped walking tour of the city. They can then save the tour and have it sent as a txt message, with a link to their mobile or forwarded to their email with links through to their personalised map of the city, showing their selected interest points. They can then use the maps to conduct their own walking tour of discovery at their leisure.

Seeing things old and new

Satellite delivered an engaging, simple-to-use digital experience for users to seamlessly explore Auckland City and all the arts, culture and heritage it has to offer. With tools to actually plan and take real world journeys around the CBD. The installation opens a world for anyone to Click, Swipe, Point and Discover the City of Sails in new and exciting ways.
