The PEDIGREE® Lie Detector — Wearable Tech to Sniff Out the Truth

Dogs will do anything for a snack. To tackle the growing problem of pet obesity, PEDIGREE® and Colenso BBDO set out to expose the truth with a clever twist: the Lie Detector. Satellite was brought on to turn this concept into a real-world product - designing, developing, and delivering the complete tech ecosystem behind a wearable device that helps dogs stay honest, and owners stay informed.

At the heart of the project is a smartwatch-style activity tracker built just for dogs. Housed in a waterproof, chew-resistant silicone shell (in unmistakable PEDIGREE® yellow), the collar logs your dog’s movements, measures activity levels, and delivers a bold on-screen verdict: LIAR or NOT LIAR. Behind the scenes, we engineered a custom OS tailored to canine behaviour and led the end-to-end process from silicone case prototyping to full-scale manufacturing.

Supporting the device is a companion mobile app that syncs with the collar to give pet parents a full picture of their dog’s day. Users can register their dog, calculate feeding needs, log meals and treats, and track calories burned - all through an intuitive, voice-activated interface. Simply ask, “Hey Siri, is my dog a liar?” and get the verdict in real time.

To build excitement, we also launched a pilot microsite, giving dog owners a chance to win early access to the device, download the app, and provide feedback to help refine the product before its full release. And because dogs don’t hold back, we put the Lie Detector through weeks of rigorous testing across breeds, behaviours, and muddy backyard adventures - ensuring it could stand up to the realities of daily dog life.

The result is a joyful blend of tech and behaviour science, wrapped in a playful user experience. It’s not just a novelty - it’s a genuinely useful tool for encouraging healthier habits and smarter feeding choices. And with a collar-free version in development, the PEDIGREE® Lie Detector is paving the way for even more accessible, data-driven pet care solutions.
